Odisha athletes draw blank in Junior Federation Cup

An eight-member Odisha squad, including four girls, failed to win a single medal in the 14th Federation Cup Junior National Athletics Championship, which was held at Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru from May 3 to 5. Among the eight, Sanjay Kumar Singh and Latika Basra did not even compete for technical reasons.

Kamakshya Prasad Nayak failed to qualify for semifinals boys 100m and 200m sprint, finishing sixth in heats. Sukadev Mohanty also bowed out from the heat stage of boys 110m hurdles, clocking 16.22 seconds. Thrower Hari Behera finished 10th in boys discus with an effort of 35.82m and eighth in shot put with a performance of 15.32m.

Among girls, Sekunta Kullu ended fifth in 100m sprint (12.96s) and eighth in long jump (5.35m). Long-distance runner Samsad Ara Begum claimed seventh position in 3000m (10:57.97s) and fifth place in 5000m (19:00.30s). Jasmi Kisku finished sixth in 400m hurdles with a timing of (1:10.32s).
